Goals are not about getting; they are about growing through giving a better service to others. Whether this is your family, your work, your customers, or even just strangers, doesn’t matter. Once you begin to give more to one person, you’ll soon be giving more to everyone. Remember giving precedes receiving. The more service your business gives, the more revenue you will receive.

Do you ever feel like you are part of somebody else’s plan? Go to school, get a job, get married, buy a house, have children, retire… Why not design your own life? Have you started that business you’ve always dreamt of? Is your business up and down or is it consistently growing every month? This is down to your goals and your attitude.

Did you know settling is an attitude? Irish people have a big problem with this, it’s called the ‘it’s grand’ attitude. If it’s not what you want, don’t tolerate it. It doesn’t do you any good, and how can you make the most of yourself when you’re accepting things that are dragging you down?

Like the first one, goals are designed for personal and business growth. Through growth, you become calmer, happier, wealthier, loving, grateful, giving, abundant and confident. Imagine how many more customers and clients your business would have if you 5X all these traits?

Napoleon Hill coined the term ‘practical dreamers’. He associated this term with people like Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk, Henry Ford, W. Clement Stone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc. These were people with a vision that nobody else could see, but they were proactive and persistent enough to make it a reality.

A goal is first an idea in your imagination. It is a seed of accomplishment. It is invisible to the naked eye and there is often no evidence that it can be achieved. By continuing to focus on it, you nurture that seed, and it begins to grow. As a business owner, you must have a clear vision for your business outlining who you help, how many people you want to help, how you help them and what problem you want to irradicate.

I never came across this before and it gives a cool angle. How busy are you? It seems everyone is living life at 100 miles per hour now. Do you know why you are busy? Is your action helping you reach your goal? Or do you feel caught up in the daily minutia of everyday life?

This is why I love goals so much. Goals are something positive and inspiring to focus on, they pull us away from obstacles and excuses. They also pull us away from focusing on the things we aren’t happy with like the economy or the health system. They allow us to test our imagination and our willpower to turn the invisible into the visible. The best you can do for everyone is to make the most of yourself.
