There is a magic switch inside of you that you can easily turn on at any instance that has the capacity to change the outcome of everything you do.
This magic switch is like a rocket booster that enables you to access a power-pack you didn’t know you had.
When you turn this on, everyone you encounter feels it. And they don’t just feel it, they become energised by this power too. It is contagious. And considering your success in life depends on your ability to get other people to agree with you, this power-pack can get more people to say ‘Yes’ than any other force.
The magic switch I’m referring to is Enthusiasm.
Enthusiasm is contagious. When your enthusiasm is transferred to other people, they become fascinated and enthralled by your vision and they want to be part of it. They intuitively know that you 110% believe in what you’re saying and doing, and that they would be foolish to not be involved.
It’s not what we say, or do, that matters. It’s not the thing or the feature or the plan that’s important when you’re trying to influence others. What’s important is how they feel. It’s the thought behind the thing you’re saying or doing.
I have a friend that is always enthusiastic about everything, whether it’s good or bad. Although he has his vices which have gotten him into tricky and embarrassing situations, he remained enthusiastic through it all, and his enthusiasm overcame almost all of it.
He is the life and soul of the party, and the centre of attention. I often felt that if he was landed into the Amazon rainforest in the morning, that without knowing any survival skills or the language of the local tribes, that they would be hailing him as a god by the evening! He just has that enthusiasm and charisma about him, that can be felt by everyone. Do you know someone like this?
The interesting thing is, the Greek origin of enthusiasm means to be possessed or inspired by a god.
Do you feel enthusiastic about what you do?
Is there enthusiasm flowing from your every thought and action?
If not, then I think it’s time to add it to flick the magic switch!
Frank Bettger, a self-help author, wrote a book about raising himself to success in selling. In essence, selling is about getting agreement from people that then leads to a commitment or an exchange whereby both parties benefit.
He was a very successful salesman, and before that, he had a successful career as a professional baseball player in the 1900s. He prioritised the first chapter of his sales book to enthusiasm. He said it worked wonders for him in both professions, and that it would work for anyone, in any profession. In one case, his enthusiasm alone 7X his income in just 10 days.
Frank’s advice to be more enthusiastic was simple.
“How can you begin? There is just one rule:
To become enthusiastic – act enthusiastic.
Put this rule into action for thirty days and be prepared to see astonishing results. It easily may revolutionise your entire life.
Stand up on your hind legs each morning, and repeat, with powerful gestures and all the enthusiasm you can generate, these words:
Force yourself to act enthusiastic, and you’ll become enthusiastic!”
If you need to get an extra edge in business or in your personal life, you must be enthusiastic. Flick that switch!
Do you have a way to switch up your enthusiasm level? I’d love to hear it!
Have a great week!
John
