The Power Really is in Your Hands!

Writer's picture: John DouglasJohn Douglas

After his foot was amputated, poet William Ernest Henley wrote a famous poem, ‘Invictus’, meaning unconquerable or undefeated. Whilst in prison, Nelson Mandela often referred to this poem, and it was the title of the 2009 feature film. The meaning behind the poem is that self-mastery is the key to controlling your future, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

To paraphrase Henley, ‘it is I who determines what my future will bring by the ideas I choose to think’.

Let’s break this down. Firstly, what are ideas? Ideas are thoughts, and thoughts are energy, just like oil is energy. But unlike oil, thought is in a formless state. All energy is governed by laws, i.e. gravity, cause and effect, conservation of energy, etc.

Think of thought like a strong wind. You can’t see the wind, but you can clearly see its power in how it moves objects. Thought has tremendous power. It is the most powerful force in the Universe, but we were never taught this in school!

Why are thoughts powerful? Because the thoughts you think actually create your reality.

The thoughts which you accept and which dominate your consciousness, become fixed in your mind, and these thoughts ultimately become the truth of who you are. Every thought is on its own energy frequency or vibration, which we refer to as emotion. This emotion, or how you feel about something, controls your behaviour, and the behaviour determines the results we create. The doing gets us results. More knowledge may be required but is not a license to earn more, that’s why college degrees don’t guarantee success!

Your income is set by what you choose to think about money and your own self-worth. For most people, their fixed ideas about money, leave them feeling insecure and fearing poverty. This is seen through behaviour where people dislike or hate their job but continue to work there in fear.

These ideas and feelings are programmed into us in our early years and unless we consciously decide to change them, they will continue to dominate.

Likewise, if you’re a business owner, your business is either growing or stagnating in line with your perception of the situation. It has a lot less to do with the economy or competition than you might think. Although most businesses decline or disappear during recessions, why is it some businesses thrive during these times? If one can thrive, then there must be a process by which all can thrive.

Market conditions are secondary compared to your thoughts and beliefs about your situation. Choosing to think of how you want the situation to be, regardless of external appearances, is true freedom.

So if the economy is bad and business is slow – is that real? Or is that fake?

Whilst it may be a ‘fact’ of your current environment, facts are not the truth. Facts are at the mercy of your perception, which is controlled by your programming. The truth is determined by the thoughts you choose to think and allow to dominate your consciousness.

“Truth depends on the intensity of your imagination, not upon external facts.”

– Neville Goddard

This means your imagination is the tool which enables you to fuse with new ideas. Once you fuse with an idea, you become emotionally involved with it and it will cause you to behave in a certain way and this will gradually change your circumstances. The truth literally sets you free.

The thoughts you choose to accept are either going to set you free to live a dream life or keep you imprisoned in your current circumstances. I’m not saying where you are is like a prison, but as human beings we have an inherent need for always wanting more, to be more, to do more, to have more.

Are you accepting thoughts which allow you to express yourself fully?

Or are you in the habit of rejecting your desires because you simply don’t know how you’re going to achieve them?

The choice is yours.

So how do you set yourself free? You get crystal clear on what you want, you write it down, and then ask, ‘if I had achieved this goal, and this was now my new normal, what thoughts would be normal for me to think?’ The answers that come to you are ideas, each new idea has an action attached to it, follow through on this action, and your goal will start realise itself!

The quickest way for you to change how you think, so that you are freed from your current situation and thinking only from your goal achieved, is to get a mentor. A good mentor should facilitate a high vibration environment and seeing you as the best version of yourself in accordance with your goals. It is the only way to consciously reprogramme you mind.

If you think you can do it on your own, you’re not being fair to yourself. Of course willpower can get you a little bit of the way, but nowhere near where your potential. No one who achieved anything substantial in life ever did it on their own, you need the right people. Getting a mentor is a great start. Take care,

John
